Uromi, Nigeria
About Uromi
The community of Uromi is located in Edo State, which has an inland border in Southwestern Nigeria. Edo State has a history of infrastructural damage and economic destruction following the end of the Nigerian Civil War in 1970. In the decades since, local governments have struggled to rebuild hospitals, schools, and public housing, but high levels of corruption and financial mismanagement have made redevelopment extremely difficult.

Barriers to Healthcare:
Maternal and Child Healthcare
Low nutrition security for children
Affordability of medication
What’s happening in Uromi?
Mercy Missions has a new project. It is a community-based initiative to improve maternal and child health outcomes through care coordination and nutritional support. The program leverages Community Health Workers and clinic staff to deliver targeted interventions, particularly for vulnerable populations. The Bebor Nutritional Model will be piloted to address malnutrition among children and support long-term health improvements.
Nutrition
We support this site through access to the maternal and child healthcare program based on the Bebor model for nutrition. Your donations help patients receive care and support nutrition initiatives.
Meet our Partner
Mercy Missions
Dr. Mercy Obeime, a family practice physician in Indianapolis and native of Nigeria, founded the Mercy Foundation after an eye-opening trip visiting one of her medical school professors in Nigeria. Today, the Mercy Foundation and Timmy Global Health work together to engage patients in programs designed to teach preventative health measures and lifestyle modifications to improve overall quality of life and health outcomes.
In 2010, The Mercy Foundation Inc. officially became a recognized international partner of Timmy Global Health, under the title of Mercy Missions, to expand its mission work in Nigeria, including Uromi.
