Dear Past, Current, and Future Friends of Timmy,

At the most basic level, everyone involved in Timmy Global or any analogous organization sees, feels, and is moved by the same experience, the same conditions, and the same largely ignored, unjustified, and unfathomable status quo of poverty and need that exists throughout the MAJORITY of the world today. What is great about Timmy Global Health is that it is working toward changing that and it is teaching others, like me, how to do so in an effective way. Change comes about only after a collaborative effort from individuals who have taken the time to truly understand what they are doing and why they are doing it and who have taken every means necessary to take themselves out of the equation. They work WITH and not FOR others. These individuals give of their time, of their resources, and of their very selves to produce more than just a one-time, unusable, or even harmful handout that simply creates more problems than it solves. Instead, they work to create significant long-term change that begins at the individual and moves to the infrastructural level, working alongside partners. It takes more work, more effort, and more persistence than you could ever imagine, but, in the end, it is worth it!

I hope to be able to continue learning from this wonderful organization because it is one of the reasons why I am where I am today. I am working to become a physician so I can (hopefully) become one small part in what must happen to change the status quo. I am not sure exactly what is in my future beyond my MD (a Masters degree in Public Health, Doctors Without Borders), but I do know that I am going to do whatever I can to contribute to that change.

Become involved in Timmy and make yourself a part of that change so that Timmy can continue to reach out and expand. From my experience in starting a Timmy chapter at the University of Notre Dame, I can tell you that it is not easy, but it IS possible!

Let’s put our selves aside and work together. Let’s change the status quo.

Let’s BE TIMMY

God Bless,

Megan Rybarczyk
